MVR Goyder Rd and Palmerston Counters

The Department of Construction and Infrastructure (DCI) engaged UNO Management Services (UNOMS) to deliver a program of Repairs and Maintenance and Minor New Works projects on behalf of the Northern Territory Government.

As part of the program two projects were undertaken for the Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) offices at Goyder Road and Palmerston for the Department of Transport:

  • MVR Palmerston Modification to Counter - the existing counter was modified in order to accommodate a driver license machine.
     
  • MVR Goyder Road Upgrade Front Counter Benches - at MVR Goyder Road the existing front counter benches are to be replaced to provide improved security and amenity.

The project delivered the following items and fulfilled the project objectives:

  • New counter to accommodate the driver license machine in MVR Palmerston.
     
  • New counter benches assembled to match colour and style for MVR corporate presence at Goyder Road.
     
  • Improve security to front counter staff

Kirsty is the Project Director responsible for overseeing the project from concept through implementation, attaining approval for the write back brief (WBB) and preparation of tender documentation. Ewan is the Project Manager responsible for undertaking existing  infrastructure and building reviews; preparing cost estimates; negotiation building changes with the Client; designing modifications for various buildings at MVR Goyder Road; and attaining design sign-offs. Ranil is the design engineer responsible for preparing designs for the counter and infrastructure changes; and preparing cost estimates. Ian was responsible for assisting with the counter designs and supervising the works at MVR Palmerston and will supervise the works at MVR Goyder Road with the recently appointed Contractor.

Key Program Achievements:

  • Project Management of MVR Palmerston Counter modifications undertaken on time to budget and to a high quality standard.

     
  • Zero safety incidents occurred during construction.

Relevant Key Project Learnings:

  • Short project timeframes require a large amount of planning and thought in preparation of the tenders so as to insure the project can run on time and to budget.

     
  • Security facilities such as MVR requires more attention to security requirements than normal projects.

     
  • Constant Communications between client and contractor has allowed minimum disruption to essential operations.
