RCG Building - Project Management of Carpet Fitting and Modifications

The Department of Construction and Infrastructure (DCI) engaged UNO Management Service (UNOMS) to deliver a program of Repairs and Maintenance and Minor New Works projects on behalf of the Northern Territory Government.

As part of the program minor new works were undertaken in the RCG Building for the Department of Housing, Local Government and Regional Services (DHG). The project comprised project management of carpet fittings and office modifications, including:

  • Development of a working plan to maximize working efficiencies for staff and contractors during the carpet replacement program that has been initiated by the building owner.
     
  • Planning, Coordinating and  facilitating minor partition variations on Level 2, in discussions with the client and in association with the building owner activities and with DCI approval.
     
  • Providing designs of variations of non-structural walls as required by the client, in the ground floor area, with DCI approval.
     
  • Project managing, planning and co-coordinating, the works as required.
     
  • Providing a co-ordinated plan for the works that allows DHG to minimize staff time loss and interference form the activities.
     
  • Providing drawings of relevant changes and documentation to DCI's satisfaction.
     
  • Expediting, Managing and delivering with agreed approvals, all items above in the existing allocated time frames, as directed by the DCI and the Client.
     
  • Reporting to DCI.

Key Program Achievements:

  • Stage 1 of carpet fitting and office modifications for the RCG Building were completed on time, to budget and to a high quality standard.
     
  • Zero safety incidents occurred during construction to date.

Relevant Key Project Learnings:

  • Constant Communication between client and contractor has allowed to minimum disruption to essential operations.
     
  • The Client representative provided is not always the person with the authority to sign-off on the cost estimate and the project.
