Dep of Construction and Infastructure - Larrapinta Road

The Larapinta road is an important interscetion in Alic Springs. The project involved the preparation of the design and documentation for upgrading the Larapinta Drive and Lovegrove intersection.

During the project a number of design issues arose including: location of existing services; protect flora species; ability for large vehicles to manoeuvre around the intersection and need to implement a sustainable design.

The UNOMS  project team was responsible for: undertaking a site inspection including review of existing topographical data; meeting wiht interested stakeholders; reviewing existing environment and road alignment; detailed geometric design; detailed pavement design; existing minor drainage design; rehabilitation of disturbed areas; development of schedule of quantities and cost estimates; preparation of drawing tender documentation, including spceification and preliminary clauses; undertaking a stage 3 Road Safety Audit; formal reviews and others as necessary; laiison with relevant service authorities liaison with DCI's Engineering  Services Branch and Alice Springs Office Manager; design report; handover notes for construction; provide all associated documents and data, digital or hard; and advice during the construction stage to any enquiries rasied by the Contactor or DCI.

Key Project Achievements:

• Detailed engineering design delievered to budget and to a high quality standard.
   
• No variation occurred on the project.
   
• Design provided significant improvements to the existing road alignment to provide a safer raod for users with in a limited budget.   

Project Learnings:

• Protected trees cannot be moved no matter how much key stakeholders would like them to be moved.
   
• Early development of good quality relationships in Alice Springs assisted with the smooth delivery of necessary information and data.
